For many years I struggled with the concept of creativity. People would often call me creative; I drew every day and I loved arts and crafts. But for me it never really felt like I was creative. Most of my work wasn’t original but replications. I would spend hours searching through Pinterest or Google for inspiration, and a lot of times by the time I had found something to (re)create, the creative juices had already run dry. My creative process almost never came from an inner source, and I associated good artwork with originality and artistic skill. This led me to believe that others were more naturally creative, while I struggled to come up with ideas myself.

This perception began to shift when one day I created an artwork for a friend, choosing to focus not on visual external references, but on sensing her character and her energy. Suddenly, ideas and imagery started to emerge, and I entered a state of flow in which the creative process felt natural and effortless. Through this experience, I came to understand that creativity is not purely cognitive or technical, but an intuitive and inward process.

I am also interested in spirituality, and I began to recognize that this understanding of creativity shares parallels with spiritual practices, where the emphasis is on intuition, presence and inner awareness. This realization started my curiosity about the relationship between spirituality and creativity.

And so for a few years now I’ve used spiritual practices in my creative process more and more. A tarot reading for inspiration, a guided meditation beforehand or during, or simply closing my eyes and letting myself ground and become present. I’ve noticed a severe change in my creative process and my artworks, and sometimes I find insights or certain meanings in my artwork which become clear only after making it.
